Reminder about cell phones. The first time we see them is a warning to put them away. The second time please confiscate it (take it away at the moment) and bring it to the office for a parent/guardian to come and get. 

A note for grades 6 through 8. I believe I wrote about Peg Dawson's (Executive Functioning guru) visit before the break. Her schedule is on the calendar and below. Prior to her arrival, she is requesting students complete these two surveys/questionnaires. It will allow her to focus her conversation on specific needs identified in the grade level. Please work these into Advisory by Thursday, March 9th.

The Fire Department is offering a training here at TPS the weekend of March 18/19 and has offered some seats (free of charge). I'm looking into seeing if I can get people who stay for it paid but I'm not overly optimistic. The information is below. Please let me know if you are interested. 

NAEMT's Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course teaches EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment.

The course presents the three phases of tactical care and integrates parallel EMS nomenclature:

• Hot Zone/Direct Threat Care that is rendered while under attack or in adverse conditions.
• Warm Zone/Indirect Threat Care that is rendered while the threat has been suppressed but may resurface at any point.
• Cold Zone/Evacuation Care that is rendered while the casualty is being evacuated from the incident site. 

The 16-hour classroom course includes all new patient simulations and covers the following topics:

• Hemorrhage control including immediate action drills for tourniquet application throughout the course;
• Complete coverage of the MARCH assessment;
• Surgical airway control and needle decompression;
• Strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments;
• Caring for pediatric patients;
• Techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safety; and
• A final, mass-casualty/active shooter event simulation.

NAEMT's TECC course is endorsed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, is consistent with the current guidelines established by the Committee on TECC (Co-TECC), and meets all of the updated National Tactical Emergency Medical Support Competency Domains. This course is accredited by CAPCE for 16 hours of continuing education credit, and recognized by NREMT.

NAEMT is a recognized education partner of the Co-TECC. The Co-TECC establishes guidelines for the provision of prehospital care to injured patients during a tactical incident. The Co-TECC neither creates curriculum for the prehospital provider, nor does it endorse the curriculum of other organizations.

MCAS 

I am starting to organize MCAS testing and accommodations for our students. Many students have graphic organizers as an accommodation.  We are allowed to use organizers on MCAS that are routinely used in the classrooms, but they cannot contain any words (unless they come from the DESE approved organizers website).  If the students know the format of your organizer(s) well enough, you can even make a copy and white out the words! 

By 3/17:

For students on IEPs w/this accommodation: Please provide your special educator/case manager with a copy any organizers you routinely use with your students. 

For students on 504s w/this accommodation:  Please get me a copy of the organizers you routinely use with your students. You can drop them off at my office or put them in my mailbox.  I just ask that you put a sticky note on them indicating who uses them! ;-)
